Social Action

(Reg. No. 691/97 dt. 03.12.1997) It was established as the central platform to act upon the social needs of the community. It aims at the result-orients activities for the welfare of the less privileged and all the more encompasses its activities with a holistic perspective and performance for the social change. Snehanidhi Credit Unions and Snehasree Self Help Groups established for the empowerment of women contribute to the core of the existence of Social Action.

Presently 100 credit units are working in the district of Thrissur under the geographical jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Trichur. There a total of 23,685 members. The activities include weekly savings collection, micro financing, women empowerment programmes, lending financial assistance for IGP, intervention in social issues etc.

Women empowerment has always been one of the principal targets of the Social Action. As part of micro financing, we have been availed of loan with low interest rate by the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation (KSBCDC). The fund is distributed among the SHGs for conducting various IGPs. There are 568 women SHGs with 93,174 members and 18 men SHGs with 223 members under Social Action. Primarily SHGs are engaged in various income generating activities like aerobic compost, artificial jewellery making, floriculture, dry flower making, catering services, food processing, wax flower making, embroidery, paper bag making, floor mat making, umbrella making, goat rearing, pickle making etc. Pickle making unit has been made popular by name ‘Adukkala Acharukal’ and the pickles are completely made preservatives-free.
