Social Welfare Centre
(Reg. No. 29/71 dt.04.06.1971) Social Welfare Centre is the pedestal, where our social commitment to the emergencies of society is well accomplished in collaboration with central and state Govt. agencies and departments by way of implementing various welfare projects and programmes effectively.

It carries out AHVY project under the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India to uplift the artisans to the main stream. We give package of support to the cluster of handicraft artisans, which inter alia includes basic inputs and infrastructure support in addiction to capacity enhancement to cater to target markets.  Conducting the baseline survey, we have organised the kumbara families and clusters have been formed. There are 33 SHGs working in the project area. All artisans were given ID cards, proving that they are recognised artisans. We have conducted innovative design and mould making workshops for clay pottery artisans, exhibition cum sale of handicraft items, design and technical development workshops etc.

SWC has another project by name Ollukara Animation Project that envisages creating awareness among school children to fight against the use of drugs, alcohol etc. We periodically conduct awareness seminars in various schools in the project area.

SWC, as part of women empowerment programmes, conduct saree design workshops. Hundreds of women are given training in various batches consisting of 50 members each in every batch. The training is given by the experts from Thiruppur cloth making companies.

SWC runs an institution named Pope Paul Mercy Home, a reputed and accredited institution in India, for the rehabilitation of those intellectually impaired. It has achieved the National Award for the Best Training Centre for the intellectually impaired (1996) and for Child Welfare (2001). It has three separate wings namely Santhivanam, Ashabhavan and Ashanilayam. Santhivanam is for the children, Ashabhavan for the grown up girls and Ashanilayam for the grown up boys. Every year it receives a grant through the Ministry of Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India for the running of the above institutions.  In addition, there are orphanages (boys-4 & girls-3), home for the aged (6), adoption centres (2), training centres for the intellectually impaired (5), de-addiction centre (1) etc.
